Paralympics-2026: on the second day, Ukrainian athletes won silver and three bronze medals

On Sunday, March 8, the 2nd competition day of the 2026 Winter Paralympic Games took place in the Italian cities of Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo. Ukrainian athletes won 4 medals that day — 1 silver and 3 bronze.

This was reported by the Paralympics press service .

On the 2nd competition day at the Paralympics, 23 Ukrainian athletes competed in 2 sports: parabiathlon and parasnowboarding.

In the parabiathlon, Taras Rad won a bronze medal in the individual race among men in the sitting class. In the same discipline, other Ukrainian athletes showed the following results:

  • Oleksandr Aleksyk — 9th place
  • Vasyl Kravchuk — 10th place
  • Hryhoriy Shymko — 11th place
  • Pavlo Bal — 15th place

In para-snowboarding in the men’s snowboard cross discipline in the SB-UL class, Vladyslav Khilchenko took 4th place in his heat and failed to advance to the quarterfinals.

In the women’s individual parabiathlon standing race, Oleksandra Kononova won a bronze medal . Other Ukrainian women in this discipline took the following places:

  • Lyudmila Lyashenko — 4th place
  • Iryna Bui — 7th place
  • Bohdana Konashuk — 9th place

In the men’s parabiathlon standing class, Ukrainian athletes finished outside the medals. Athletes’ results:

  • Serhiy Romanyuk — 5th place
  • Seraphim Dragun — 7th place
  • Hryhoriy Vovchynskyi — 10th place
  • Dmytro Sereda — 17th place

In the parabiathlon among women with visual impairments, Ukrainian athletes also did not win any awards. Their results:

  • Oleksandra Danylenko — 4th place
  • Ilona Varkovets — 8th place
  • Oksana Shyshkova — 9th place
  • Romana Lobasheva — 12th place

Ukraine won 2 more awards in the parabiathlon in the individual race among men with visual impairments. Maksym Murashkovskyi won the silver medal , and Dmytro Suyarko became the bronze medalist .

Also performing in this discipline were:

  • Yaroslav Reshetynskyi — 4th place
  • Oleksandr Kazik — 5th place
  • Anatoly Kovalevsky — 6th place

After 2 days of competition, Ukraine ranks 2nd in the medal standings of the 2026 Winter Paralympic Games. The Ukrainian team has 10 medals: 3 gold, 2 silver and 5 bronze. China remains the leader in the medal standings.

At the 2026 Paralympics, Ukraine is represented by a record-breaking 35 athletes. The team includes 25 Paralympic athletes and 10 guide athletes.

It was previously reported that Ukrainian parabiathlete Oleksandra Kononova became the bronze medalist of the 2026 Paralympics in the individual standing race.
