Voting has concluded in Armenia in important parliamentary elections to the National Assembly, where citizens chose the future course of the country.

As JAMnews reports , this vote is one of the most important in recent years due to Yerevan’s desire to gradually withdraw from the Russian Federation’s zone of influence.

The main confrontation unfolded between the leading political force “Civil Contract” of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and the pro-Russian opposition bloc “Strong Armenia”, which is backed by billionaire Samvel Karapetyan, whose fortune is estimated by Forbes at $4.1 billion.

According to the May Gallup International Association polls, the ruling party had 28.8% support, while the opposition bloc “Strong Armenia” had 14.9%.

Voter turnout reportedly increased throughout the day, exceeding 30% in the afternoon. There were reports of isolated violations during the voting and in the run-up to the election. Opposition forces reported pressure on their representatives and candidates, while international observers recorded isolated procedural incidents.

There is currently no information about large-scale fraud that could critically affect the voting results. The first preliminary results of the vote count and exit poll data are expected in the coming hours.

As a reminder, parliamentary elections began in Armenia on June 7 , the results of which may determine the country’s further political course and the level of trust in the government of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

Meanwhile, Russia has intensified covert operations aimed at disrupting Armenia’s political course toward rapprochement with the West and influencing the country’s upcoming elections, including disinformation campaigns, vote-swing schemes, and support for pro-Russian candidates.

It should be noted that Kremlin dictator Vladimir Putin recently had a phone conversation with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, wishing him a happy birthday. At the same time, Moscow continues to increase economic pressure on Yerevan , introducing new restrictions on Armenian products.

In return, the European Union intends to provide Armenia with an economic support package worth 50 million euros amid restrictions from Russia and Yerevan’s deepening cooperation with European partners.
