On Sunday, September 28, parliamentary elections were held in Moldova, in which citizens elected a new legislative body of 101 deputies.

This was reported by the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Moldova.

According to the CEC, 1,590,835 citizens took part in the vote, which is 51.90% of the total number of voters.

The most active group of voters was those aged 35 to 45 — 23%. Next in terms of activity were citizens aged 46–55 (17.8%) and 26–35 (17%).

A feature of these elections was the significant participation of the Moldovan diaspora abroad. It is precisely because of the active voting of citizens outside the country that the vote counting may be delayed. At the same time, only two polling stations were opened in Russia to avoid possible fraud, while only 12 stations were operating in Transnistria.

Ukrainian MP Iryna Gerashchenko, who was present at the elections in Moldova as an international observer from the OSCEPA mission, noted that exit polls were not conducted this year, and the CEC will announce the first results on Monday.

She emphasized that the elections were held with enhanced control measures: video cameras were installed at the polling stations, which recorded each ballot, and the booths were equipped with special seals. In addition, the ballots were printed in two languages – Moldovan and Russian, and patriotic music was played at the polling stations.

Moldovan President Maia Sandu thanked voters at home and abroad for their active participation in the vote. In return, her opponent, former president and leader of the Patriotic Electoral Bloc, Igor Dodon, called on his supporters to protest against the voting results.

The main struggle in these elections is unfolding between the pro-presidential Action and Solidarity Party (PAS), led by Maia Sandu and advocating the country’s pro-European course, and Igor Dodon’s Patriotic Bloc, which advocates rapprochement with Russia and closer contacts with the Kremlin.

Let us remind you that on September 28, the next parliamentary elections began in the Republic of Moldova . Citizens are electing 101 deputies for a four-year term. Polling stations opened at 7:00 and will operate until 21:00 local time.

By the way, on the eve of the parliamentary elections in Moldova, fakes were spread on social networks about alleged agreements to send Moldovan military personnel to Ukraine to participate in the war that the aggressor country Russia unleashed against it.

At the same time, Russia is trying to push Moldova away from its chosen course towards the European Union. Political analysts note Russia’s active interference in the parliamentary elections . Some figures trying to obtain accreditation as international observers have already been seen at pseudo-referendums in Crimea and the occupied territories of Donbas and Abkhazia.
