Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced agreements to supply Ukraine with 150 Gripen aircraft and 100 Rafale aircraft. According to him, these aircraft will be new and should strengthen the country’s aviation capabilities.

This was reported by the press service of the President’s Office.

The President made the relevant statement during a meeting with teachers and students of the Kyiv Aviation Institute on the occasion of the 120th anniversary of the birth of aircraft designer Oleg Antonov. He emphasized that the development of military aviation is one of the priorities during wartime.

“Ukraine currently has agreements on the supply of 150 Gripen aircraft and 100 Rafale aircraft. In our opinion, these are the best aircraft in the world,” said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The Head of State noted that the F-16 fighters already in service with Ukraine also have high characteristics, but they are not new. According to him, the aircraft that may be transferred by partners will be new.

Zelensky also said that Ukraine plans to develop civil aviation after the war. He also suggested the possibility of creating new educational programs at the Kyiv Aviation Institute in cooperation with the Air Force.

The Gripen is a Swedish-made multi-role fighter aircraft developed by Saab. The aircraft is designed for air combat, interception, reconnaissance and ground attack. It is known for its relatively low operating costs, short runway capability and modern weapons systems.

The Rafale is a French multi-role fighter jet developed by Dassault Aviation. It is capable of performing a wide range of combat missions, including air combat, ground and sea strikes, and nuclear deterrence. The aircraft is equipped with advanced radars, electronic warfare systems, and precision weapons.

It was previously reported that Ukraine is implementing a large-scale project to develop its own combat aircraft fleet , which in the future should number about 250 modern aircraft – F-16, Gripen and Rafale.

The day before, the Swedish defense company Saab announced its readiness to open a final assembly plant in Ukraine as part of a potential deal to purchase 150 Gripen fighter aircraft for the Ukrainian Air Force.

Recall that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that he had ordered one hundred Rafale fighter jets from France for the needs of the Ukrainian army . This should significantly strengthen Ukraine’s air force and its defense potential.
