In Kyiv, the Security Service of Ukraine detained a bank employee who turned out to be a Russian agent. The suspect was passing personal data of soldiers and volunteers to the FSB.

This was reported by the press service of the SBU.

The detained man was a 40-year-old man who worked in the information security department of one of the capital’s commercial banks. The Russians noticed him on a banned social network, where he was active.

After the suspect was recruited, a curator from Russia sent him a “test” assignment. The man had to photograph structures that could potentially be used by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Later, the agent received a new assignment. As it was established, the banker was collecting customer data among representatives of the Defense Forces and military volunteers.

The enemy could use the transmitted information to prepare terrorist attacks, information sabotage, and recruitment operations against Ukrainian defenders.

SBU officers discovered and detained a Russian agent at his residence. During the searches, they seized four smartphones, removable SIM cards for espionage, and three laptops on which he had been storing personal data of potential “targets.” They also recorded contacts with Russian special services on his phone.

The detainee has already been informed of suspicion of treason committed under martial law. The man is currently in custody and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

It was previously reported that Counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine prevented an attempted sabotage at a railway infrastructure facility in the Khmelnytskyi region.

As a reminder, the Security Service of Ukraine detained an FSB agent who was preparing a missile strike on the Kropyvnytskyi thermal power plant. The suspect turned out to be a 16-year-old resident of Kropyvnytskyi.
