Patriarch Emeritus of the OCU Filaret has died
On Friday, March 20, Patriarch Emeritus of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine Filaret passed away. He was 97 years old.
This was announced by the Primate of the OCU, Metropolitan Epiphanius.
“Today, there is deep sadness and regret in my heart, as in the hearts of many Ukrainians, because today the earthly journey of His Holiness Patriarch Filaret has ended,” the post says.
Filaret was a Ukrainian Orthodox hierarch who headed the Kyiv Patriarchate as Patriarch of Kyiv and All Rus’-Ukraine from 1995 to 2018.
After the creation of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine in December 2018, he received the title of Honorary Patriarch of the OCU. In 2019, Filaret was awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine.
As a reminder, on March 9, Patriarch of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyiv Patriarchate Filaret was hospitalized in one of the medical institutions in Kyiv due to deteriorating health.
