Patriot for Ukraine: new details of the agreement between Germany and the US have emerged

Germany and the United States are close to signing a deal to provide Ukraine with additional Patriot air defense systems. New details of the talks indicate that Berlin is ready to provide two more systems from its reserves, and Washington is ready to compensate them with supplies from industrial stocks. An announcement of the agreement is expected this week.

It is noted that Berlin and Washington are completing final negotiations on a large-scale agreement that provides for the transfer of additional Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine. This includes five installations, two of which will be provided by Germany from its own warehouses, and the US will compensate for this supply from strategic reserves.
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius confirmed his country’s readiness to act promptly during an online meeting of the Contact Group on Defense of Ukraine.
“We will do everything possible to transfer a total of five Patriot systems to Ukraine as soon as possible,” he said, without going into details of the negotiations with the United States.
Key issues still being agreed between the parties are the timing of the replenishment of air defense stocks for Germany, as well as the reconfiguration of some of the American systems previously intended for other countries, including Switzerland. It is estimated that the adaptation of the equipment could take up to eight months.
According to sources familiar with the negotiations, an announcement of a final agreement could be made as early as this week.
The day before, Berlin confirmed its readiness to help Ukraine strengthen its air defense . During a meeting in the Ramstein format, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius announced that, together with the United States, his country would participate in the supply of five additional Patriot systems.
By the way, the Patriot air defense system, which Germany plans to pay for to be transferred to Ukraine, is currently being finalized and will be ready no earlier than in 6–8 months.
Recall, US President Donald Trump announced that the first batches of Patriot anti-aircraft systems have already been sent to partner countries, which will later transfer them to Ukraine.
