The Netherlands has announced its readiness to make a significant contribution to the supply of Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine. The country’s Defense Minister Ruben Brekelmans stressed that Russia is trying to break the Ukrainian nation through massive air attacks, but international partners will not allow this plan to materialize.

This was reported by the press service of the Dutch Ministry of Defense.

It is noted that during the regular meeting of the Contact Group on Defense Issues in Ukraine in the Ramstein format, which took place on July 21, the Minister of Defense of the Netherlands, Ruben Brekelmans, publicly confirmed his country’s determination to increase assistance to Kyiv. In particular, this refers to Amsterdam’s readiness to finance part of the costs of supplying additional Patriot air defense systems , which are critical for protecting Ukrainian skies from daily Russian attacks.

In his speech, Brekelmans emphasized that the Russian strategy is obvious – to force the Ukrainian people to lose their resilience and surrender through total air terror. However, the Netherlands and its allies do not intend to allow this plan to be implemented. That is why the state is ready to make a significant contribution to strengthening Ukraine’s air defense. The head of the defense department emphasized the moral and strategic obligation to support Ukraine in its struggle for freedom and the right to exist.

The Dutch Ministry of Defense reported that the country is currently conducting intensive consultations with the United States and other partners on the mechanism for supplying American Patriot systems to Ukraine. The relevant negotiations are taking place in close coordination with NATO to ensure the effectiveness and coordination of steps. The details of the future contribution of the Netherlands are still being clarified, but it is already obvious that this is not a symbolic, but a real defense assistance.

It is expected that the scope and format of the Netherlands’ participation in the future military assistance package will be finalized in the near future. This step demonstrates Amsterdam’s consistent and principled position, and also confirms the unity of Western countries in countering Russian aggression. Today, air defense has become one of the main elements of Ukraine’s resilience, and Allied support in this direction is crucial for preserving lives, cities and the future of the entire state.

The day before, Berlin confirmed its readiness to help Ukraine strengthen its air defense . During a meeting in the Ramstein format, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius announced that, together with the United States, his country would participate in the supply of five additional Patriot systems. Later, it became known that Germany and the United States were close to concluding an agreement on the transfer of additional Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine. New details of the negotiations indicate that Berlin is ready to provide two more installations from its reserves, and Washington is ready to compensate for them with supplies from industrial stocks. An announcement of the agreement is expected this week.

By the way, the Patriot air defense system, which Germany plans to pay for to be transferred to Ukraine, is currently being finalized and will be ready no earlier than in 6-8 months. On the eve, US President Donald Trump announced that the first batches of Patriot anti-aircraft systems have already been sent to partner countries, which will later transfer them to Ukraine.
