Patriot missiles, artillery and precision munitions: US suspends aid to Ukraine

The United States of America has temporarily suspended the supply of some anti-aircraft missiles and precision-guided munitions to Ukraine due to concerns about the level of its own defense reserves.

This is reported by Politico, citing several sources.

The suspension was the result of an initiative by Elbridge Colby, the head of the Pentagon’s policy division, three people familiar with the matter said. It followed an inspection that showed a critical decline in the stockpile of artillery shells, anti-aircraft missiles and precision weapons. Although the decision to suspend was made in early June, it only took effect now.

This is happening against the backdrop of intensive shelling of Ukrainian cities by Russian missiles and drones, which requires significant resources from Ukraine for air defense.

Politico reached out to the Pentagon and the White House for comment, but did not receive a response.

According to NBC News, the temporarily suspended supply includes:

– several dozen Patriot interceptors

– thousands of 155 mm shells for howitzers

– over 100 Hellfire missiles

– more than 250 high-precision GMLRS missiles

– dozens of Stinger missiles, AIM, and hand grenade launchers

According to sources, some of the weapons have already been delivered to the region, but the transfer to Ukraine has currently been halted.

NBC also reports that US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth decided to suspend the supply after ordering an audit of US military stockpiles. Over the past two years, the US has been actively supplying weapons to Kyiv, as well as supporting operations in the Middle East, which could have led to the depletion of arsenals.

Four officials — two from the Pentagon and two from Congress — said the restrictions would remain in place until a full inventory is completed. If the audit finds that stocks are critically low or needed for other purposes, deliveries to Ukraine could be delayed indefinitely.

White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly explained in a comment to CBS News that this decision was made in light of the need to put US national security priorities first, according to the results of an internal review of military assistance to other countries.

As a reminder, the Trump administration is making concerted efforts to roll back initiatives aimed at holding Russia, its leader, and allies accountable for war crimes in Ukraine.

Several US national security agencies have reportedly suspended efforts to counter Russia’s hybrid warfare , including sabotage, disinformation, and cyberattacks.
