The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has allocated an additional UAH 60 billion for the needs of the Defense Forces. The funds will be used to pay military personnel, support their families, purchase weapons, and ensure the operation of units.
Prime Minister Serhiy Koretsky announced this on his Telegram channel.
Of the additional funding, UAH 43.5 billion was earmarked for payments to military personnel and support for their families. Another UAH 16.6 billion will be allocated for the purchase of ammunition, drones, electronic warfare and communications equipment, as well as for the repair and modernization of equipment.
According to Koretsky, the additional funds should ensure timely payments to the military and stable financing of units that perform combat missions.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy voiced the need for additional resources for the army on August 24 during a meeting of the “Coalition of the Willing.” Then he said that in 2026, Ukraine needed $27 billion to finance the army. Of this amount, $8–10 billion was to be spent on the purchase of weapons for January–February 2027, in particular air defense systems. The remaining funds were planned to be used for the current needs of the Defense Forces.
In addition, on September 14, Koretsky called the state of public finances “close to critical.” According to him, delays in passing the necessary bills could jeopardize a significant portion of international funding — $29.5 billion.
On October 2, Ukraine received 2.9 billion euros from the European Union under the Ukraine Facility program. Koretsky noted that these funds should support the sustainability of public finances and help cover key expenditures. This will allow the country to direct most of its domestic resources to defense needs.
It was previously reported that Ukraine lacks $27 billion to cover the needs of its defense budget. The government plans to find about $7 billion domestically, and is working out mechanisms to attract the remaining $20 billion together with international partners.
