Peace agreement, relations with Trump and drone development: key takeaways from Zelensky’s new interview

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy gave an almost hour-long interview to American blogger Laura Loomer, in which he answered questions about the war, relations with the United States, peace negotiations, sanctions against Russia, and the development of Ukrainian drones.
During the conversation, the head of state declared his readiness to sign a peace agreement in the United States, spoke about improving relations with President Donald Trump, and announced a significant increase in the range of Ukrainian drones.
Peace negotiations and willingness to sign an agreement
One of the main topics of conversation was the prospects for ending the war.
Answering Laura Loomer’s question about whether he was ready to sign a peace agreement with Russia in the Oval Office, Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that he was ready to do so both in the White House and at Donald Trump’s residence.
“Yes, I’m ready. I’m ready to come to the Oval Office or Mar-a-Lago for a peace deal. It’s up to Trump,” the president said.
At the same time, Zelensky stressed that Ukraine’s main priority remains preserving the lives of citizens.
“If tomorrow we can stop the war, have a ceasefire, it is better than fighting for 10-20 years for victory and losing our people. A ceasefire is a better alternative,” the head of state said.
Relationship with Donald Trump
The president also spoke about the changing relationship with US President Donald Trump. According to Zelensky, the turning point was their brief personal meeting at the Vatican in April 2025.
“Absolutely. We had our first turning point in Rome, in the Vatican. It was a short meeting, but I’ve always said that, in my opinion, it was a historic moment because in 15-20 minutes we changed our relationship,” he noted.
The president added that he would not disclose the content of this conversation, but emphasized that it was after it that greater trust appeared between the leaders. In addition, Zelensky said that Trump understood who was really not interested in ending the war.
“The president understood who really doesn’t want to stop the war. He understood that we really want peace,” he said.
When asked by Loomer about the best US president, Zelenskyy replied that he considered Abraham Lincoln to be the best.
When the blogger pointed out that Donald Trump would be reviewing the interview, the president responded: “Trump is a good, strong leader. Whether he’s the best or not, of course, history will tell.”
Ukrainian drones and cooperation with the US
A separate part of the interview was devoted to the development of Ukrainian drones. The President reported that Ukraine is already transferring to the American side experience in the use of sea, air and long-range drones, and is also working on joint production of drones with the United States.
According to Zelensky, the parties plan to build a drone production plant in the United States, and the relevant document is almost ready. The president also spoke about the further development of Ukrainian long-range drones.
“Now we have drones for 3,000 plus kilometers . This year we will have 4,000 kilometers , next year – from 5 to 10 thousand ,” the head of state said.
At the same time, Zelensky emphasized that supporting Ukraine gave the United States invaluable military experience.
“America has gained experience. All the experience of this war. All the generals of the United States have already accepted this. America has an exclusive, without paying for this experience with our lives. We paid,” the president noted.
Sanctions against Russia and Iran
During the interview, Zelensky also supported Donald Trump’s idea to combine the Russia sanctions bill with sanctions against Iran. He said such an initiative could help broaden support for the document among members of the US Congress.
“Lindsay was deeply involved in this bill. We support President Trump’s idea of combining this with sanctions against Iran. It’s a very good idea. I think it can unite different people in Congress: some support anti-Iran sanctions, some support anti-Russian sanctions,” the president said.
Russian propaganda and fake news
A separate section of the conversation dealt with Russian propaganda. Laura Loomer admitted that she used to believe Russian news narratives and even wrote materials for RT.
“I just wanted to share with you, as someone who was anti-Ukrainian and who consumed a lot of Russian propaganda. I wrote articles for RT… I realized that I had been fooled by Russian propaganda. I believed a lot of false things about Ukraine. I used to think that this country was full of Nazis,” Loomer said.
Zelenskyy responded briefly to this:
“No, we are not Nazis,” the president said.
During the interview, the blogger also asked Zelensky about one of the most common Russian fakes regarding his alleged drug use.
“True or false: Did you use cocaine with Macron or not?” the journalist asked.
The president denied these allegations.
“Of course not. Never,” he replied.
Zelensky also commented on Russian accusations of Ukraine’s “Nazism”, recalling the losses of Ukrainians during World War II, the Holodomor, and the existence of legislation in Ukraine to combat anti-Semitism.
A visit to Pennsylvania
Laura Loomer also recalled Volodymyr Zelensky’s visit to an artillery plant in Pennsylvania in 2024, which then drew criticism from some Republicans.
The President explained that he had no political goal and was visiting the enterprise because of Ukraine’s urgent need for artillery ammunition.
“We really needed artillery shells… I tried to find a solution for production in Ukraine, get licenses or buy… Believe me, if I knew that this could be related to the elections, then no, of course not,” Zelensky said.
