Moscow recently transmitted a private diplomatic message to Washington, reaffirming its previous demands for a potential peace deal with Ukraine.
This was reported by Reuters, citing two American officials familiar with the details of the document.
The document, which is an unofficial diplomatic appeal, contains the Kremlin’s key position – a demand to establish control over the entire territory of the Ukrainian Donbas. One official noted that this demand contradicts former US President Donald Trump’s proposal to freeze the conflict on the current front line.
In addition, Moscow repeated one of its long-standing conditions – the exclusion of the presence of NATO troops on the territory of Ukraine within the framework of any agreements on the cessation of hostilities.
The release of the document coincided with the cancellation of an expected meeting between Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Budapest. The official White House statement said that such a meeting is not planned in the near future.
As the sources emphasize, the unofficial communiqué indicates that the Kremlin continues to adhere to a tough, uncompromising position on Ukraine. Responding to a request to comment on the situation, the White House recalled Trump’s recent statement, in which he did not rule out the possibility of a ceasefire on the current lines, but emphasized that he had not made a final decision on the future summit if it did not have real meaning.
As reported, Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a telephone conversation with Donald Trump , demanded that Kyiv hand over full control of the Donetsk region to Moscow as a condition for ending the war against Ukraine.
Recall, during a meeting in Washington on October 17, US President Donald Trump called on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to accept Russia’s conditions for ending the war . Trump warned that Vladimir Putin could “destroy” Ukraine if Kyiv did not agree.
