The Donald Trump administration in the US is proposing to create a new international structure, the “Peace Council”, which would involve a contribution of at least $1 billion for permanent member states. The project would give the head of the organization broad powers and provide for centralized control over decisions and funds.

This is reported by Bloomberg .

Donald Trump’s administration is promoting the concept of a new international organization, the “Peace Council,” to resolve global conflicts and wars, similar to the UN.

The draft charter, which journalists reviewed, states that states wishing to have permanent membership must contribute at least $1 billion in cash within the first year.

It is noted that these funds are planned to be used for the reconstruction of Gaza, and the plan to create the organization itself is linked to the cessation of hostilities in this region.

The initiators propose making Donald Trump the first chairman of the “Peace Council.” Formally, decisions should be made by a majority vote of those present, but all of them would be subject to approval by the chairman.

The draft statute also provides the chairman with unusual powers, including the right to appoint a successor, expel members of the organization, and personally control its financial resources. A two-thirds vote is required to overturn a decision to expel a member.

According to the document, standard membership in the organization is limited to 3 years and depends on the decision of the chairman.

It is reported that Donald Trump has already invited individual leaders, including Argentine President Javier Milay and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, to participate in the “Peace Council” on the situation in Gaza.

Analysts warn that the “pay for influence” model creates the risk of the emergence of an alternative international institution that could undermine the role of the UN and international norms through the concentration of power in one person and the priority of financial contributions over diplomatic processes.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also reacted to the initiative, criticizing the idea of a “Peace Council”, stating that the details of the project had not been discussed with his country.

Recall that the United Nations is considering a large-scale reorganization due to a lack of funding.
