The Kremlin has not signaled that Vladimir Putin is willing to compromise on his demands to end the war against Ukraine. Moscow insists on fully taking Russian interests into account, while blaming EU and NATO policies for prolonging the fighting.

Reuters writes about this.

“Achieving a just and lasting peace is possible only if the legitimate interests of the Russian Federation are fully and unconditionally taken into account,” Moscow said.

The Kremlin also criticized the policies of the European Union and NATO countries, claiming that they contribute to the continuation of the war. At the same time, the message did not indicate that Putin was ready to abandon previously voiced positions.

Western European leaders have largely avoided contact with Putin and increased sanctions against Moscow since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. But they have now taken a back seat to the talks to end the war, which are being actively promoted by US President Donald Trump.

In many EU capitals, the American president is considered unpredictable and there is fear that he may support the Kremlin’s position at the expense of Ukraine.

These concerns have been heightened by recent agreements between Washington and Moscow. Putin agreed to supply Russian diesel fuel to the United States, and Trump eased sanctions against Russia. The American president also said that it was time for Ukrainians to replace Volodymyr Zelensky as president.

Separately, Ukraine reported disruptions in the exchange of intelligence data with the United States and the operation of satellite Internet services on which the Ukrainian army depends.

As a reminder, Finnish President Alexander Stubb and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre had a telephone conversation with Vladimir Putin on October 27 regarding the end of the war in Ukraine . The talks were held in agreement with the Ukrainian side.

As reported later, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky discussed with the leaders of Finland and Norway their conversation with Putin . In particular, the topic was attacks on Ukrainian energy and preparations for trilateral talks.
