“Peace Plan”: US threatens Ukraine with cessation of arms supplies and Russia with sanctions
The United States has increased pressure on Ukraine and Russia over peace talks. According to Reuters, Washington is insisting that Kyiv agree to a framework agreement to end the war by next Thursday.
This was reported by Reuters , citing sources who spoke of US threats to reduce the supply of intelligence and weapons if Ukraine does not agree to the proposed scheme.
In parallel, the US permanent representative to the UN Mike Volz said that Washington is ready to strengthen sanctions against Russia if the Kremlin does not agree to a ceasefire. According to him, the US is offering Moscow “generous conditions”, including the possibility of lifting some of the sanctions, but Russia continues its attacks. The diplomat stressed that the war has already led to devastating losses for all sides and that “there is no military end to the conflict.”
Volz also stressed that Ukraine’s attacks on Russia’s energy sector have weakened the Kremlin’s ability to finance the war. He warned that if Russia continues to ignore demands for a ceasefire, the United States will not only impose new sanctions but also continue to supply Kiev with weapons.
It was previously reported that the key provisions of the draft US “peace plan” have become known , which was allegedly agreed upon by representatives of Donald Trump and the Kremlin.
