Peace talks: pros and cons of a trilateral meeting of presidents

The US and Europe are demonstrating positive developments in the settlement of the Russian-Ukrainian war, in particular, a public discussion of security guarantees for Ukraine has begun. However, without signals from the Kremlin about a willingness to make concessions, it is premature to speak about the effectiveness of the trilateral negotiations.
This was stated on the air of “Pryamoy” by the head of the Committee of Voters of Ukraine, Oleksiy Koshel.
“There have already been many glowing reviews. They pay attention to the suit, the smiles, the compliments, and the inspiration of optimism. Zelensky is ready to meet with Putin – has such a turning point occurred? No, there was no turning point, but it was a very good process, and a number of problems that appeared after the meeting in Alaska were corrected. First of all, it was successful for the US President, because the American press criticized him incredibly harshly, and for Trump these are extremely important things,” Koshel noted.
Another plus, according to him, was that for the first time a discussion, including a public one, began on security guarantees for Ukraine.
“That is, at least this issue was not before Alaska. Perhaps these were backstage conversations, backstage agreements, but even in this case we would have seen a leak of information from European politicians, because the issue of guarantees for Ukraine is inextricably linked to the issues of guarantees for Europe… Now Europe needs these guarantees. And that is why this diplomatic landing party of the largest size that arrived in Washington resolved this issue. And this figure – 100 billion for armaments for Europe, for Ukraine – is an extremely big plus. Also, for us, a big plus is that we worked and acted synchronously with the European Union,” the expert explains.
At the same time, the main disadvantage is that at the moment there have been no messages from the Kremlin about its willingness to make concessions, so it is premature to talk about the effectiveness of such negotiations.
“Now, regarding the minuses, lest we have no rosy prospects, we did not believe that the war would end in two weeks. So far, we have seen extremely clear, synchronous, important for us positive developments in the US-Europe format. Trump’s change in position is very important. But we have not seen any signals from Russia yet. We have not seen any hints of a statement of readiness to make concessions. We have not even seen a statement of a freeze on the front line. We have not seen a clear position on many issues. And therefore, it is still premature to talk about negotiations, about meetings,” emphasized the head of the Committee of Voters of Ukraine, Oleksiy Koshel.
As a reminder, multilateral talks involving US President Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and leaders of key European countries have concluded in Washington. The central topic of the discussions was the prospect of ending the war in Ukraine and launching a new peace process initiated by Washington.
According to Donald Trump, preparations for a historic meeting between Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin will begin in the near future. The American leader personally contacted the Kremlin after the talks at the White House.
Meanwhile, a meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin could take place in the coming weeks . According to European diplomatic sources, Hungary is being considered as a potential venue for the talks.
Meanwhile, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin continues to avoid any real guarantees that would prevent a new invasion of Ukraine. Instead, Moscow consistently seeks to destroy Western unity , oust Kyiv from the international support system, and divide the United States and Europe.
