On Thursday, December 4, US President Donald Trump’s special representative Steve Witkoff and the president’s son-in-law Jared Kushner will meet with the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Rustem Umerov in Miami. The main topic of the talks will be a discussion of possible ways to peacefully resolve the war in Ukraine.
This is reported by the Associated Press.
According to the publication, it is currently unknown what specific results the meeting will lead to. The further course of the negotiations will largely depend on the decisions of the Trump administration – whether the emphasis will be on increasing pressure on Russia or on Ukraine in order to achieve concessions in the peace settlement process.
“Witkoff and Kushner will meet with Ukraine’s chief negotiator Rustem Umerov on Thursday to continue talks,” a senior US presidential administration official said.
The publication emphasizes that this meeting is part of a series of contacts aimed at finding a possible path to a peace agreement between the parties to the conflict, but specific details have not yet been disclosed.
As a reminder, on Wednesday, December 3, the American delegation held a telephone conversation with the Ukrainian team after meeting with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin in Moscow.
As previously reported, the planned negotiations between Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the American delegation, which was supposed to arrive in Brussels after a visit to Moscow, will not take place.
