Peace negotiations between Ukraine and Russia, which continued throughout this year, ended without any significant results and are now officially suspended.
This was stated by the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Serhiy Kyslytsia, in a comment to The Times.
“Since this year’s peace talks ended with little progress, they have now been suspended,” Kyslytsia emphasized.
According to him, since the summer, the main challenge for Ukraine has been to achieve greater activity from international partners in order to persuade Vladimir Putin to meet with Volodymyr Zelensky in person. However, even diplomatic efforts by allies have not been able to break the deadlock in the process.
Kyslytsia admitted that he did not expect great achievements from the negotiations, because from the beginning they took place in conditions where the Russian side had no space for independent decisions.
“In a dictatorship, it is impossible to have constructive discussions with negotiators who are completely dependent on the will of their dictator. They have a narrow mandate and only repeat the imposed position. There, everyone controls each other and competes to see who defends it the most rigidly,” the diplomat explained.
Kyslytsia emphasized that any peace agreements with Moscow are impossible without the direct participation of Putin himself, because in the Russian political system all decisions are concentrated in his hands personally.
“In the Russian system, you are not dealing with delegations – you are dealing directly with the dictator,” the Foreign Ministry representative emphasized.
As a reminder, Russia has stated that it is allegedly ready to return to the negotiation process with Ukraine at the Istanbul venue. However, according to Russian diplomats, Kyiv has not yet provided an official response to this initiative.
As reported, Russian President Vladimir Putin, despite significant losses of his troops and economic problems within the country, remains determined to continue the war against Ukraine and maintain control over the captured territories.
