The Pentagon has relieved Lieutenant General Charles Costanza of his duties as commander of the U.S. Army’s 5th Corps, which is based in Poland and plays a key role in U.S. military operations in Europe and coordinating support for Ukraine.
This is reported by ABC News .
Costanza headed the 5th Corps, which was responsible, among other things, for organizing and coordinating military aid to Ukraine. He had previously said of his service: “Selfless service is what we are here for, and it is something bigger than ourselves.”
It is noted that Costanza was fired 2 months before the end of his term. The reasons for the decision have not been officially made public.
The new commander of the 5th Corps is to be Major General Thomas Felty, who previously commanded the 1st Division.
Costanza’s removal comes amid a reshuffle in the top US military leadership. According to the data provided in the introductory text, more than 20 high-ranking military personnel have been dismissed or temporarily suspended from duty since Pete Hegseth was appointed Secretary of Defense.
At the same time, sources claim that the decision regarding Costanza is not related to the general restructuring of the Pentagon’s military leadership and has no political basis.
Major General Thomas M. Felty is a United States Army officer who commanded the 1st Cavalry Division in 2025. He was previously the deputy commander of III Armored Corps and the head of the U.S. Army Armored School. Felty has also commanded units in various positions within the U.S. Armored Forces system. Felty has repeatedly spoken about the need to adapt American forces to modern warfare, develop new technologies, and prepare for large-scale combat operations.
It was previously reported that the US will supply Ukraine with Patriot interceptor missiles for its air defense systems every month . According to President Volodymyr Zelensky, relevant agreements have already been reached, but American missiles may not be enough for Ukraine’s needs.
