Pentagon hands over leadership of Ukraine assistance mission to Europe

The U.S. Department of Defense has ordered the reorganization of the Security Assistance Group for Ukraine (SAG-U), which coordinates the supply of weapons, training of the Ukrainian military, and logistics. Leadership of the mission will be transferred to European allies.

This was reported by the US European Command.

The command noted that the decision was made by US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. They emphasized that the changes will not affect further military support for Ukraine.

The Pentagon explained that the transfer of leadership confirms the leading role of European allies in supporting Ukraine’s defense, which they have consistently strengthened over the past year.

In addition, the reorganization will allow the US to free up some resources for other global priorities.

It was previously reported that the administration of US President Donald Trump plans to use $400 million allocated for aid to Ukraine for several more years . Congress has already criticized this approach, considering it too slow against the backdrop of the war.
