People left without food, electricity, and gas: Russia keeps occupied Oleshki under a humanitarian blockade

Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga said that Russia is creating a humanitarian blockade on the temporarily occupied left-bank Kherson region. The most difficult situation, he said, has developed in Oleshki, where about 2,000 people have been left without electricity, gas, and regular supplies of food and medicine.

Before the full-scale invasion, about 24 thousand people lived in Oleshki; now about 2 thousand remain there, including 50 children.

Over the past month, the city has been completely blocked from delivering food, medicine, and other essentials. According to Sybiga, civilians are also being attacked by Russian FPV drones.

“Horrifying testimonies are coming from occupied Oleshki about how people are trying to survive under the blockade created by Russia: they are looking for leftover food, collecting grass, because there is simply no other food,” the minister said.

The critical situation is also observed in Holya Prystan, Starya and Novaya Zbur’ivka. Ukraine is seeking an organized evacuation of civilians and humanitarian access to the occupied territories.

According to Szybiga, the International Committee of the Red Cross and other humanitarian organizations are ready to help, but Russia is hindering the delivery of aid and evacuation. On September 1, during one of the humanitarian missions, Russian military attacked 4 volunteer vehicles.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will raise the issue of the humanitarian situation in the occupied Kherson region at international forums, in particular during the UN General Assembly in New York.

We will remind you that after negotiations, the Russian side has not confirmed its readiness to conduct a humanitarian mission to evacuate civilians from temporarily occupied Oleshki for a long time . The situation has reached the point where some people are trying to get out of the city on their own through minefields.

Earlier, the head of the Oleshkiv city military administration, Tetyana Hasanenko, told Radio Charter about the critical humanitarian situation in the city. According to the MVA, about two thousand people remain in Oleshkiv itself, and the city is on the verge of famine.
