In St. Petersburg, massive disruptions in mobile Internet service have been ongoing for the second day now — users of all leading operators are complaining about a complete or partial lack of connection.

This is reported by Russian media.

According to local residents, the Internet is disappearing even in applications from the so-called “white list”, in particular in navigation services. Because of this, drivers have lost the ability to plot routes.

“Time to buy a paper card. I was driving by feel. I have to reboot my phone after leaving the house,” write outraged users.

On social networks associated with the city’s Committee for Informatization and Communications, St. Petersburgers are leaving a wave of angry comments:

“St. Petersburg authorities, who will bear responsibility for the disgrace that has been happening with mobile communications all day? Who will compensate people for the losses?” local residents ask.

The city committee confirmed the connection problems and admitted that mobile internet “works unstable” due to security measures. Officials did not disclose details of what measures are in question.

Recall that Russia is preparing new restrictions on communications, which may affect not only private calls, but also citizens’ access to foreign services. Officially, the initiative is presented as a protective measure, but experts warn of serious consequences for freedom of information and communications.

As reported, Russia has officially approved mass restrictions on mobile internet , saying such measures are supposedly needed to counter drones. The Kremlin called the shutdowns “justified and necessary.”
