Petro Poroshenko discussed the rule of law in Ukraine with Marta Kos.
Petro Poroshenko discussed the rule of law in Ukraine over the phone with EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos.
Poroshenko also welcomed the EU Council’s unblocking of a €90 billion loan to Ukraine for 2026-2027 and the 20th package of sanctions against the Russian aggressor.
“I noted that these are the steps that will help our state strengthen the Ukrainian Armed Forces, economic stability, and plan for resistance in the medium term,” the fifth President wrote on social media .
“We discussed expectations for today’s informal meeting of EU member state leaders in Cyprus, particularly in the context of discussions on next steps toward Ukraine’s EU membership. He emphasized that European Solidarity has always been a committed supporter of EU membership through reforms and the achievement of EU standards and criteria to improve the lives of Ukrainian citizens and create new opportunities for the development of Ukrainian businesses,” Poroshenko wrote.
“We also discussed with European Commissioner Kos the problematic issues of the rule of law, corruption, and politically motivated persecution in Ukraine, particularly in the context of political pressure on the Supreme Court in the case of lifting unconstitutional sanctions against the opposition leader, as well as obstacles to the foreign policy work of Ukrainian MPs and ambassadors,” the political leader noted.
“Without the rule of law, Ukraine will not be able to join the European Union. Therefore, implementing the ‘Utka-Kos plan’ is crucial. Because joining the European Union is a national project involving all of society and the opposition, not just the government’s. We agreed to maintain contact on urgent issues on the Ukraine-EU agenda,” writes Petro Poroshenko.
