Petro Poroshenko congratulated Ukrainians on Constitution Day on social media and emphasized that war does not justify violating the Basic Law for authoritarian purposes.
He wrote about this on his Facebook page.
He noted that although martial law involves certain restrictions on rights and freedoms, it is not to the extent that it happened in Ukraine, where all rational needs necessary for defense are exceeded.
The fifth president noted that it seems to him that the Constitution has been abolished altogether. After all, the government considers itself absolute and sees no limitations for itself.
“It’s about strict censorship in the media. About multiplying the role of parliament by zero. About pressure on the opposition, civil society, volunteers. About the destruction of local self-government. About tailoring – the illegal use of the judicial and law enforcement system for narrow political interests. About searches without court permission and about sanctions bypassing the judicial system. While millions of people are defending Ukraine from the external Russian threat, “5-6 managers” are peeping into Russian cheat sheets,” Poroshenko writes.
He added that Ukrainians need not only to defend Ukraine, but also to win peace later. After all, Ukraine must remain a parliamentary-presidential republic. So that the values that they stood for on the Maidan and then fought for on the front lines do not turn into ordinary words on paper.
“More than half of Ukrainians already understand where the government is heading. But despite everything, we are fighting for freedom, for our right to choose, for our sovereignty, and, ultimately, for our course towards the European Union and NATO. For everything that is written in the Constitution. Happy Constitution Day of Ukraine!”, wrote the leader of the European Solidarity party.
Earlier, Petro Proshenko stated that the creation of a new government of national salvation and the transfer of the economy to military rails is what is now needed to overcome the situation threatening the country’s existence.
