“Petrov’s Aunts”: How the Government Uses Yanukovych’s Legacy

If the state uses semi-criminal “titushki” to fight a law enforcement agency that is not under political influence, this is a sign of the degradation of the state.

But this is not new. Yanukovych loved it, using “titushok” to fight the opposition. Now Zelensky is doing it. Even the executor is the same – Petrov and Co.

Under Poroshenko, similar “feints” with blackmail and infokilling cost him a place in pre-trial detention and a criminal case in the SBU. This is clearly the reason for his sincere hatred of Poroshenko.

Under Zelensky, the SBU has not brought the case to court for over six years, keeping Petrov on the hook and using him for the dirtiest orders.

During this time, he managed to earn money for another case – regarding the “titushki” under Yura Nikolov’s apartment, but this very simple case, where Petrov’s ears are sticking out of every crevice, suddenly slowed down.

If the state is unable to punish crimes and thereby encourages them to repeat them, it is a weak state. If the state uses criminals and itself encourages them to commit crimes, it is much worse.

And I will illustrate the text with a photo of Petrov from the pre-trial detention center, which, considering all of the above, looks like an announcement. Because the government changes, but crimes remain crimes.

As a reminder, MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak stated that the individuals involved in filming a provocative video near the NABU building in Kyiv have been identified. According to him, one of the individuals involved had previously participated in similar actions, in particular against politician Viktoria Siumar.

According to the deputy, the video provocation was filmed on April 3 in front of the entrance to the NABU building, after which it was distributed by anonymous Telegram channels. Later, thanks to the recordings from surveillance cameras, it was possible to identify the perpetrators and persons who may be behind the organization of the action. Among the identified participants are Dmytro Dmytrenko and Andriy Derenivskyi.
