A Ukrainian skeleton athlete who was not allowed to compete at the Olympic Games wearing a “memory helmet” called for Serhiy Bubka to be stripped of the title of Hero of Ukraine.
He said this while speaking in the Verkhovna Rada, Ukrinform quotes him as saying .
“We have several representatives from Ukraine who are in the IOC — now I’m talking about Mr. Bubka — who still bear the title of Hero of Ukraine. In fact, I am ashamed that he bears this title, he should not bear it,” the athlete emphasized.
According to the skeleton athlete, Bubka is “playing along with Russia” and “destroying Ukraine” — trading with the occupiers, allowing Russian flags in the organization he heads.
“And when he bears the title of Hero of Ukraine, which is now most often awarded posthumously, this is unacceptable,” Geraskevych noted.
He added that Bubka could be stripped of his title by imposing sanctions on him.
Previously, Ukrainian skeleton athlete Vladyslav Geraskevych was disqualified before the start of the competition at the 2026 Winter Olympics.
We will remind you that he went to training on the Olympic track wearing a “memory helmet” with images of athletes who died during the war with Russia.
The International Olympic Committee later banned skeleton athlete Vladislav Geraskevych from competing at the Olympic Games in a helmet with the image of Ukrainian athletes who died as a result of the full-scale Russian invasion.
By the way, after being suspended from the 2026 Olympics , the athlete said that there are things more important than medals .
