Poland and Romania have raised their air force amid Russia’s massive attack on Ukraine

On the night of Wednesday, September 30, Romania and Poland took to the skies with fighter jets amid the Russian attack on Ukraine. Romania detected an aerial target near the border with Ukraine, while Poland tightened control of its airspace and brought in ground-based air defense systems.
This was reported by the Romanian Ministry of Defense and the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces.
In Romania, a radar system detected an aerial target moving from an easterly direction near Izmail and the river border. Two Spanish F-18 fighter jets, on combat duty as part of a reinforced air policing operation, were scrambled to monitor the situation.
Romanian authorities also announced the introduction of measures to alert the population in the northern Tulcea county. At the same time, the Ministry of Defense stated that no violations of the country’s airspace were recorded.
“No intrusions into Romanian airspace were detected,” the agency noted.
Amid the Russian attack, Poland has also tightened control. On the morning of September 30, the Polish Operational Command announced the deployment of its own aircraft to monitor airspace.
In addition to fighter jets, the Polish military has brought ground-based air defense and radar reconnaissance systems into readiness.
“These measures are preventive in nature and are aimed at ensuring the security and protection of Polish airspace, in particular in regions bordering threat zones,” the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces said.
Also in Poland, the airports in Lublin and Rzeszow have temporarily suspended operations, the Polish Air Navigation Services Agency reported.
Romania has scrambled fighter jets in recent days over Russian attacks on Ukraine near its border. NATO authorities are stepping up airspace monitoring due to the risk of Russian drones approaching or entering the territory of the Alliance.
As a reminder, the day before yesterday , debris from an object, probably a drone, was discovered in an agricultural field in Romania. After it crashed on the island of Veliki Braila, a fire broke out, which later went out.
As previously reported, a damaged drone with explosives was found in an agricultural field in Vaslui County, Romania. The device was found near the border with Moldova . Its origin has not yet been established.
