Polish authorities conducted a large-scale operation to check migrants in all voivodeships on March 2–3.

This was reported by the Polish publication Polskie Radio, citing Polish Minister of the Interior Marcin Kerwiński.

The raids involved more than 27,000 police and border guards, as well as elite units including the Central Cybercrime Bureau and the Bureau of Police Investigations. In total, almost 1,800 checks were carried out at the places where migrants live and work.

As a result of the operation, 1,944 fugitives were detained, including 147 foreigners wanted by the Polish authorities. The largest group of foreigners is Ukrainians — 91 people. Other citizens: Georgians — 14, Belarusians — 8, Moldovans — 3, Russians — 2.

Among the most common reasons for the detention of Ukrainians: violation of the terms of stay (expiration of visas or temporary protection status), illegal work without an official contract, security threat (more than 20 people), and the presence of criminal warrants in the EU.

The Border Guard Service has already initiated over 110 administrative expulsion proceedings. For most Ukrainians, this means: cancellation of the right to stay, forced escort to the border, and a ban on entry to the Schengen area for a period of 6 months to 5 years.

Minister Kerwinski stressed that such operations will become regular. Experts advise Ukrainians to check the relevance of documents and avoid unofficial work so as not to fall under the impact of further raids.

Recall that as of January 2026, 5.6 million Ukrainians were abroad due to the war, which is 400 thousand more than at the end of 2024. At the same time , in 2025, the rate of net departure across the western border decreased by 34% compared to 2024.
