Poland decided not to send money from the EU fund to Ukraine

Poland will not transfer funds it receives from the European Peace Fund (EPF) to Ukraine. Warsaw plans to spend them on modernizing its own army.

This was announced by State Secretary of the Polish Ministry of Defense Pawel Zalewski, a correspondent for Suspilny reports.

According to him, the funds that Poland will be reimbursed within the EPF will be transferred to the Polish Army Modernization Support Fund.

Zalewski explained that Poland’s internal regulations allow this money to be used exclusively for the modernization of the country’s Armed Forces.

At the same time, Germany plans to use funds from the European Peace Fund to further support Ukraine.

Sebastian Hartmann, Parliamentary State Secretary of the German Federal Ministry of Defense, stated that the EPF mechanism allows Berlin to allocate additional funds to Ukraine.

According to him, Ukraine will be able to address its needs and use available funding to cover them. Hartmann called such a mechanism a good signal for Ukraine and European unity.

Sweden has also decided to direct funds received through the EPF to support Ukraine, the country’s Defense Minister Poul Jonsson announced.
