Poland is in talks with Ukraine regarding the potential transfer of MiG-29 combat aircraft.
The corresponding statement was published on the official account of the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces on the social network X.
The General Staff explained that the transfer under discussion is due to the fact that the aircraft have reached their planned service life, and their further modernization in the Polish forces is economically inexpedient.
At the same time, the final decision on the transfer has not yet been made. The department emphasized that this step is considered part of the policy of supporting Ukraine and strengthening the security of NATO’s eastern flank.
After the MiG-29 is retired from service, their role in combat missions will be replaced by the F-16 and FA-50.
In addition, during the negotiations, the possibility of transferring certain technologies in the field of unmanned aerial vehicles and missiles to Poland is being discussed, which will provide the country not only with compensation, but also with the opportunity to jointly develop defense and industrial competencies, the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces reports.
As a reminder, earlier, the head of the Polish Embassy in Ukraine, Piotr Lukasiewicz, stated that Poland could transfer Soviet MiG-29 fighters to Ukraine.
