Poland has proposed to the United States and Ukraine to create a joint production facility for Patriot air defense missiles, placing it on Polish territory.
This was stated by Poland’s Deputy Minister of National Defense Magdalena Sobkowiak-Czarnecka during a visit to Washington, PAP reports .
According to her, the Polish side presented the relevant initiative during meetings with representatives of the Pentagon and the US State Department.
“We proposed trilateral cooperation between the United States, Ukraine, and Poland. It’s about locating production in a safe place and ensuring its stable operation,” Sobkowiak-Czarnetska noted.
She explained that the idea arose after US President Donald Trump’s statement at the NATO summit, where he admitted the possibility of organizing the production of individual components for Patriot systems in cooperation with Ukraine.
Warsaw emphasizes that Patriot missiles are among the most in demand in the world, so Poland is interested in becoming part of this production chain.
In addition, the Polish side proposed to create a regional service center on its territory for the repair and maintenance of Patriot systems. According to the Deputy Minister, Washington positively assesses the development of Poland’s defense industry and its role as a key ally on NATO’s eastern flank.
During the talks, the parties also discussed the possibility of expanding the American military presence in Poland. Separate working groups have already been formed to address this issue.
Separately, Warsaw expects to conclude an agreement with the United States in the near future on a new $4 billion credit line under the Foreign Military Financing program. The funds are planned to be used to purchase American weapons.
It was previously reported that Ukraine plans to establish joint production of interceptors for Patriot systems together with the American company Raytheon .
The US has also begun the procedure of granting Ukraine a license to produce missiles for these systems , moving the issue from the political level to practical implementation.
