Law enforcement agencies have launched a criminal investigation into the illegal surveillance of journalists in the “Midas” case.
This was reported by People’s Deputy Yaroslav Yurchyshyn, after receiving a response from the National Police.
“The case has been officially opened. The police have entered the data into the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations. Case number: 12026105090000009. That is, these are no longer just letters, but a full-fledged criminal process,” he noted.
Law enforcement officers classify the offense as part 1 of Article 182 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which refers to interference in private life. In particular, the defendants could have monitored journalists, collected data about their location, movement, personal contacts, etc.
According to the MP, Maksym Konopatsky, an investigator from the Solomyansk Police Department, is working within the framework of the pre-trial investigation.
“Collection and dumping of journalists’ data is a dangerous story. If we allow God knows who to monitor media people and “collect” personal information about them, then we can forget about the European Union and the adaptation of our law to European law. As well as about the human right to privacy in general,” Yurchyshyn emphasized.
He noted that the defendants collected information about Marina Ansiforova, Yuri Butusov, Volodymyr Fedorin, Yuriy Nikolov, Stanislav Rechinsky, Olga Chaika, Andriy Kulikov, Volodymyr Mostovy, and Oleksa Shalaisky.
As a reminder, NABU previously announced the discovery of an attempt to wiretap the home of a detective from the anti-corruption bureau, who is, in particular, investigating the “Midas” case.
