The National Police of Ukraine has reported suspicions to five individuals who are likely involved in the explosions in the Zhytomyr region.
This was reported by the police press service.
According to the investigation, last summer, a group of individuals, including a 60-year-old man from Sumy region and four of his accomplices, organized the illegal manufacture of mixed explosives and explosive devices for the purpose of profit.
The suspects bought the premises of a former cowshed, weighing station, and warehouse in the Zhytomyr region and connected them to the necessary communications. One of the suspects established the supply of necessary chemical components there, as well as the operation of the production and storage of explosives.
Another man developed the recipe for making explosives and supervised the process of its creation.
“The finished products were stored in premises unsuitable for this purpose, in violation of Ukrainian legislation, without any permits, licenses, certificates or other permitting documents, in close proximity to residential buildings in the settlement,” the police press service explained.
Violation of the rules and regulations for the creation and storage of explosives led to a detonation, resulting in the deaths of two people and the injury of 83 others.
On July 7, investigators informed the defendants of suspicion of committing crimes based on prior conspiracy for the illegal production and storage of explosive devices, as well as violation of the rules for storing explosives, which caused the death of people and other serious consequences. They face up to 12 years in prison.
We will remind you that on the evening of Wednesday, July 2, two powerful explosions were heard in the Zhytomyr region , which could have occurred in a warehouse of an industrial enterprise in the village of Berezyna.
