Policeman shot dead in Sloviansk during document check: attacker fled

In Slavyansk, a man opened fire on police officers during a document check – one law enforcement officer was killed.

The incident occurred on March 19 at around 11:30 a.m. According to preliminary information, while checking the documents of a suspicious man, he suddenly started shooting at the police officers.

Police Captain Oleg Zakharenko, a senior police officer at Police Department No. 4 of the Kramatorsk District Police Department, died on the spot from his injuries.

“During the checking of the documents of a suspicious man, he opened fire on the police unit,” law enforcement officials reported.

The attacker fled after the shooting. Efforts are currently underway to detain him, with all relevant services working at the scene.
