Polish farmers held a protest near the Ukrainian border.

Polish farmers held a protest near the Ukrainian border.

On the morning of Friday, January 23, Polish farmers gathered near the Dolgobychev-Uhryniv checkpoint on the border with Lviv region and announced the start of a protest.

This was reported by the Public and Lviv Customs .

One of the protesters, named Piotr, noted that the farmers are opposing the Mercosur agreement and demanding an end to the import of Ukrainian agricultural products into the European Union. He said this applies to corn, wheat, sugar, vegetables, fruits, and oil. The protesters believe that cheaper Ukrainian products and less stringent production regulations are leading to losses for Polish farmers.

At 12:52 p.m., Lviv Customs, citing their Polish colleagues, reported that a protest by agricultural producers had begun in front of the checkpoint, but the road was not blocked. According to preliminary information, the protest was expected to last only a short time – until 1:00 p.m. Kyiv time. No traffic congestion was reported on the Ukrainian side.

The press service of the 7th Carpathian Border Detachment confirmed around 1:00 PM that the protesters were located near the Polish border crossing point “Dolgobychev,” opposite the Ukrainian border crossing point “Uhryniv,” but that traffic was not blocked. There was also no evidence of a backlog of vehicles entering Ukraine.

According to border guards, approximately 30 people participated in the event. The organizers did not receive official permission to block traffic.

Earlier, Pryamyi reported that Polish protesters were planning to block the border with Ukraine again, with the strike set to begin on Friday, January 23.
