Political censorship: on the orders of the Ministry of Digital Development, the Instagram page of the Zhytomyr organization “European Solidarity” has been blocked

The authorities continue to strengthen political censorship in Ukraine – at the request of the Ministry of Digital Transformation, the display of the account of the Zhytomyr territorial organization of the European Solidarity party on the Instagram social network has been blocked in Ukraine.

European Solidarity emphasized that the page disseminates information about the political position and activities of the party, people’s deputies, local council members and activists. The account does not contain publications using prohibited symbols and does not in any way violate current legislation.

In response to the appeal of the Zhytomyr territorial organization, the Ministry of Digital Transformation confirmed the fact of the application of sanctions, but did not provide any explanation as to what specific content state bodies consider inappropriate for revision in Ukraine.

In addition, the Ministry of Digital Development emphasized that the blocking of the party page took place at the request of the Security Service of Ukraine.

“We inform you that at the request of the Security Service of Ukraine, in order to prevent the dissemination of destructive content that could damage the information security of Ukraine, the Ministry of Digital Transformation has contacted representatives of the social network “Instagram” of the company “Meta Platforms” with a request to block the relevant accounts,” said Deputy Minister of Digital Transformation Oleksandr Bornya.

At the same time, the social network Instagram did not find any violations of the rules in the content posted on the account of the Zhytomyr territorial organization, and therefore users in other countries of the world can freely view information on this resource.
