On June 11, the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court elected a preventive measure for Poltava City Council deputy Yuriy Brazhnyk from the “Servant of the People” faction. He is currently in custody with the right to post bail.
This was reported by the VAKS.
According to the investigation, from April 2024 to January 2026, the deputy demanded and received improper benefits from contractors with whom the Housing and Communal Services Department of the Poltava City Council concluded contracts.
The bribe amount was 10% of the amount of each concluded contract.
According to law enforcement, the funds came through a currency exchange point. During the specified period, about 59 million hryvnias were transferred through it.
The investigation also believes that the deputy head of the housing and communal services department, Maksym Teslenko, was involved in the illegal activity. According to law enforcement officers, he personally communicated with the contractors regarding the amounts of illegal benefits.
For the funds received, the defendants in the case promised the contractors unhindered execution of contract agreements, timely payment for work, and assistance in concluding new contracts.
Yuriy Brazhnyk is accused of extorting and receiving illegal benefits from contractors Transdorkom LLC and DRSU Poltava LLC. According to the investigation, this amounts to 7 million 706 thousand 40 UAH.
The deputy faces 8 to 12 years of imprisonment with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for a term of up to three years and confiscation of property. Such punishment is provided for in Part 4 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
Another person involved in the case, Maksym Teslenko, is charged with Part 3 of Article 369 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – “Offering, promising or providing an unlawful benefit to an official.” The sanction of the article provides for 4 to 8 years of imprisonment with or without confiscation of property.
Prosecutors asked the court to choose a preventive measure for the deputy in the form of detention with the alternative of paying bail in the amount of 59 million 904 thousand UAH.
Brazhnyk’s lawyer objected to this motion and requested that a more lenient preventive measure, not related to detention, be applied to his client.
She emphasized that the deputy cannot influence witnesses who have already been questioned, has a daughter and mother to support, and has not previously been held criminally liable.
In addition, the defense attorney stated that the bail amount is unreasonable, unaffordable for her client, and is actually being used as a means of pressure.
Yuriy Brazhnyk himself stated during the court hearing that he had no intention of influencing the course of the pre-trial investigation.
