Poroshenko and the EU faction arrived to pay their respects to Stepan Kubiv.
Petro and Maryna Poroshenko, along with members of parliament from the European Solidarity faction in Lviv, bid farewell to their colleague Stepan Kubiv.
“Stepan, thousands of people came to say goodbye to you today. Your friends, family, colleagues, our entire team. And when this church – St. George’s Cathedral – is filled with sorrow and prayer, it is a silent sermon on the life of our Stepan,” Petro Poroshenko wrote on social media.

“You’re smiling in the portrait. That’s exactly how we’ll always remember you: cheerful, energetic, and positive. And Ukraine will remember your achievements: you’re a brilliant economist, a statesman, a patriot, commandant of the Trade Union House on Maidan, head of the National Bank, Minister of Economy, First Deputy Prime Minister, and co-author of all the fundamental reforms,” Poroshenko noted.

“You left a legacy not only in your deeds, but also in people’s hearts. After all, a person lives only as long as he lives in prayer and the memory of his people. You have already changed our country, friend,” he emphasized.

On May 18, the sudden death of Stepan Kubiv, a member of parliament from the European Solidarity faction, was announced. He served as an MP in the 7th, 8th, and 9th convocations, and previously served as the head of the National Bank of Ukraine and the first deputy prime minister of Ukraine. During the Revolution of Dignity, he served as the commandant of the Trade Union Building on Maidan Nezalezhnosti in Kyiv.
