Poroshenko: “Army, Language, Faith” is the basis of our statehood

“Army. Language. Faith” is not a party slogan, but the key principles of state building. Petro Poroshenko said this in an interview on Natalia Balyuk’s YouTube channel “Painful Topics”.

“This is the essence and fundamental ideology of Ukrainian statehood. It is a pity that in order to realize this, it was necessary to go through a large-scale Russian invasion,” the fifth President noted.

“Army, Language, Faith” was not a party slogan, as some mistakenly believe. It is the essence, it is the ideology of Ukrainian statehood. And the new government was forced to transform from “what’s the difference?”, “I’ll look Putin in the eye” and “let’s come together peacefully in the middle.” You have no other way than to come to the army, language, and faith,” Poroshenko said.

“It’s a pity for the time lost, that’s true,” he noted, adding that the majority came to this realization, unfortunately, only after the full-scale invasion of the Russian occupiers. “Only then did the mind clear up, and then people immediately came to the army, to the language, to the faith. And they understood that this is not the “ideology of President Poroshenko”, but this is the only possible, most important ideology of the Ukrainian state,” said the fifth President.

“When this idea captures the minds of the people, I am only happy,” he said. “I was happy that from the very beginning we chose the right direction for building the Ukrainian state. Because the army, language and faith are the foundation of the state. This is not some kind of PR technology, the right tricks, the fight for ratings. This has nothing to do with it,” Poroshenko emphasized.

“This is the foundation of statehood. You cannot build a state without an army. You cannot build a state without a language, in the language of the occupier, in the language of the aggressor. There is no violation of human rights here. And without a church, without faith. The Orthodox Church of Ukraine, thanks to the Tomos, which was presented by the Ecumenical Patriarch, communicates directly and is recognized by the Orthodox churches of the world,” he noted.

“What does the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate represent now, what did it represent then? It does not exist. This is a lie in order to deceive the Ukrainian people. It is not for nothing that I initiated, and the Verkhovna Rada supported my proposal that the name UOC (MP) does not exist in our country. We have a Ukrainian branch of the Russian Orthodox Church. The law of Ukraine requires us to decide now. If you have a control center outside the Ukrainian state, you are called the Russian Orthodox Church. Therefore, do not imitate, do not deceive people, come to people and say: we are the Russian Orthodox Church. And hear the answer of a Ukrainian warrior,” Poroshenko said.

“I am proud that I managed to preserve the state, to prevent a full-scale invasion, although it hung over us like a sword of Damocles, since June-July 2014, when Ukraine had no army, no money, no economy, no powerful international coalition and was doomed. So, if you like, we squeezed, bargained, bought five years, during which we tried to do everything in our power to build an independent Ukrainian state, a Ukrainian Army,” the fifth President stated.
