Poroshenko at the “War Chronicles” forum: veterans’ policy must be fair, because these people gave their health for the country
Petro Poroshenko stated during the “Chronicles of War” forum that veteran policy in Ukraine must be fair, and participants in the war against Russian aggression must receive full opportunities for implementation.

The Fifth President warned against bureaucratic formalism in treating veterans as a used resource. He emphasized that veterans are people who gave their health so that Ukraine could live, and they, like no one else, have the right to vote in resolving strategic issues of state development.
“This is the role and mission of veterans. When they see corruption in power, they have the right to say: ‘We didn’t fight for this. We fought not only to preserve the union state, we fought to preserve democracy, to preserve the freedom that has always been inherent in Ukrainians. From freedom of speech to freedom of assembly. From the freedom of public activists to the freedom of each individual person. We fought to preserve Ukraine’s place in Europe. We fought to preserve Ukraine’s future prospects in NATO,’” Poroshenko believes.
He added that we need to restore order in our own country.
“What do I associate order with, in one word? With justice. What should veteran policy be? We must increase the role of veterans in society. Because some people reduce it only to the fact that a veteran should be met from the front, given flowers, emphasized that we are very grateful, and the next day forgotten about it. This is the worst thing the government can do,” Poroshenko said.
“A veteran is not a burden for the authorities. A veteran is a resource, an opportunity, a future. We should not talk about “health screening”, but about reliable, highly professional and effective treatment. And we are not only talking about prostheses. And we are not only talking about PTSD. We are talking about facilitating the veteran’s adaptation to peaceful life. Because a veteran returned a different person, and he returned to another country. He knows how to live at the front, but he is not sure that he knows how to live in such a peaceful life. And he needs help. Help with treatment. Help with work. A veteran, if he was in the military hospital, at the front, he received 100 thousand hryvnias. He returns and stops receiving them. He must earn. And the state must provide him with the opportunity to earn such money. Does this program exist today? No,” Poroshenko states.
“And who should take care of veterans first and foremost? Veterans. To speak in one language about the problems that need to be solved. We need to unite – veterans with veterans. And not use veterans. You ask me, where can veterans work in order to receive such a salary? Veterans should work first and foremost in the defense and security sector. Because the defense and security sector has the highest salaries. Where we produce weapons and protection elements. Because a veteran is a person who is best oriented and knows what and how to prepare,” Petro Poroshenko emphasized.
The Fifth President noted that in projects for the production of equipment for the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the protection of critical infrastructure, in which he invests, more than half of the employees are veterans.
“This cannot be mandatory, but it is a standard that you must meet. And they receive the highest salaries. If Poroshenko can do it, anyone can. And veterans have the right to be present in power. Not in order to push someone into power, but in order to make decisions themselves. Why? Because they fought for this state,” the party leader believes.
By the way, on the Day of Remembrance of the Defenders of Ukraine, who died in the fight for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country, Petro Poroshenko notes that the best tribute to their feat will be the building of a strong Ukraine.
