Poroshenko called on the BBC to Western allies to force Putin to cease fire

Petro Poroshenko called on international partners to increase pressure on Russia and achieve an unconditional ceasefire on the BBC. Commenting on the latest massive shelling of Ukraine, the fifth president stressed that the Kremlin is increasingly targeting civilian targets and civilians.

According to Poroshenko, during the latest attack, Russia used dozens of missiles and hundreds of strike drones, attacking residential areas and critical infrastructure.

“Putin has completely changed his tactics. We see strikes on residential areas, water and electricity supply systems. This was a direct strike on the civilian population. Of course, this is a war crime,” Poroshenko stressed.

He noted that Ukraine has learned to more effectively counter strike drones, but combating ballistic missiles remains a serious challenge due to the lack of modern air defense systems.

Poroshenko also drew attention to the fact that the shortage of air defense equipment is a problem not only for Ukraine, but also for the entire democratic world.

“Russia must be forced to agree to a ceasefire. We must stop discussing any Russian settlement scenarios and focus on the main thing – a comprehensive, complete and unconditional ceasefire,” he said.

According to Poroshenko, if Moscow does not agree to such a step, partners should increase sanctions pressure and continue supporting Ukraine.

“Putin understands only one language – the language of force. If we learn to speak the language of force with him, then we will get a result. First we need to stop the war, and only then discuss other issues,” the fifth president emphasized.

He emphasized that it is Ukraine that is paying the highest price for the war today, so the issue of a ceasefire remains key to saving people’s lives.
