Petro Poroshenko demands that the government appoint Oleksandr Tsyvinsky, the winner of the competition, as the head of the BEB in accordance with current legislation.

He stated this during a briefing.

The Fifth President stated that the thwarted appointment destroys the trust of Western partners and harms Ukraine’s investment prospects.

“The Cabinet of Ministers, having violated the law, having violated our international obligations both as a state and as a government that promised this to international partners, did not fulfill the clear requirement of the legislation and refused to appoint the winner of an open and transparent competition with the participation of foreign experts, who won – NABU detective Oleksandr Tsyvinskyi, as the head of the BEB,” Poroshenko said.

He also added that the reason is an attempt to create another manual punitive body to crack down on the country, on democracy, on the opposition, and on business.

“For us, this is absolutely unacceptable. And the special cynicism of this is that they are doing this right on the eve of the Ukraine Recovery Conference, a conference on the recovery of Ukraine, which is starting in Rome these days,” the fifth President recalled.

He called on the government to immediately convene a meeting and approve the candidacy of Oleksandr Tsyvinsky for the position of head of the Bureau of Economic Security.

“Although as an opposition faction we do this very infrequently, we express our full trust and full support to him, join the positions of support expressed by our partners, and demand that he stop violating the law. If Mr. Oleksandr Tsyvinsky decides in court to challenge the refusal to appoint, which was made in violation of the law by the Ukrainian government, we are ready to provide him with full support – legal, political, informational, international,” the leader of Eurosolidarity said.

He also noted that representatives of the faction will register a draft resolution of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine demanding that Oleksandr Tsyvinsky be immediately approved as the head of the BEB at a government meeting.

“We are officially appealing to law enforcement agencies to initiate a criminal case, register it with the ERDR in order to establish who exactly committed arbitrariness, allowed themselves, contrary to the law, not to appoint Oleksandr Tsyvinsky, and to bring them to criminal responsibility. The actions of the Cabinet of Ministers, which, I have reason to believe, were inspired by the Office of the President, must receive a thorough and fair international assessment by our partners,” Petro Poroshenko noted.

He added that this would cause very serious harm to Ukraine and cooperation with partners, as it undermines trust in the Ukrainian state.
