Poroshenko discussed ways to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense with Swedish officials in Stockholm.
Petro Poroshenko held a series of meetings with Swedish officials and members of parliament in Stockholm.
“On my way to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, I visited Stockholm at the invitation of representatives of our sister party in Sweden. During a meeting with Political Director of the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Torbjörn Solström, the fifth President thanked Sweden for its leadership in supporting Ukraine by strengthening the Ukrainian Armed Forces, increasing our country’s defense capabilities, and ensuring macro-financial stability, as well as for assisting Ukraine on its path to EU and NATO membership.”

“We discussed the acute security challenges facing regional countries from Russian hybrid operations and possible responses by the EU and NATO. He emphasized that the only guarantee of security for Scandinavian countries today is Putin’s defeat in Ukraine. We exchanged views on the content of security and democratic guarantees for Ukraine,” Poroshenko wrote on social media.

During a meeting with Erik Ottoson, Chairman of the Swedish Parliament’s Committee on European Union Affairs, Poroshenko noted the importance of strengthening Ukrainian air defenses and closing Ukrainian skies.

“In this regard, we welcomed the European Commission’s latest security initiatives in the area of drones and air defense, as well as the provision of a reparations loan to our country using frozen Russian assets. We also discussed ways to end the war, achieve a just and lasting peace, and strengthen security on the European continent,” Poroshenko wrote.
“We discussed Ukraine’s progress toward EU membership and the prospects for commencing accession negotiations on the ‘Fundamentals’ cluster. I briefed my Swedish counterpart on the state of democracy and the rule of law in Ukraine under the difficult conditions of wartime and the need to develop a system of guarantees for preserving democracy in our country,” the fifth president wrote.
