Poroshenko explained what security guarantees Ukraine needs

The fifth president of Ukraine and leader of the “European Solidarity” Petro Poroshenko stated that real security guarantees are the readiness of allies to fight on the side of Ukraine. The only mechanism that provides such a guarantee is Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty.

He said this in an interview on the “Pryamiy” TV channel.

“Security guarantees mean that the country that provides us with security guarantees will fight Russia with us. It will not only give money. It will not only give weapons. It must undertake the obligation to fight Russia,” Poroshenko said.

He added that this is possible because this is what Article 5 of NATO says.

“That’s why I say: no other security guarantees than NATO, or NATO-style. For example, only two countries have had something similar now. This is Finland, which has taken the position that Article 5 of NATO will apply even before joining the Alliance. What is Article 5 about? It is very short,” the fifth president emphasized.

Poroshenko noted that an attack on one of the NATO member states is qualified by other countries as an attack on themselves. Therefore, an attack on Croatia or Romania is an attack on the United States and Britain with the full use of the armed forces of the United States and Britain.

Recall that Finnish President Alexander Stubb stated that the security guarantees currently being discussed for Ukraine by the “coalition of the willing” would mean an obligation for the participating European countries to go to war with Russia in the event of new aggression against Ukraine.

Earlier, “Pryamiy” reported that the “coalition of the willing” is ready to deploy support forces in Ukraine . The United States may also join the security guarantees . In particular, Washington is considering the option of monitoring the buffer zone that may arise after the cessation of hostilities.
