Poroshenko explained why there is a window of opportunity right now to implement the peace plan
Petro Poroshenko stated that a narrow but real window of opportunity is now opening for Ukraine to end the war and achieve a ceasefire.
He said this on the air of the “Pryamiy” TV channel.
According to Poroshenko, he presented his vision of a peaceful settlement to the ambassadors of the European Union member states, and also discussed it during a meeting with President Volodymyr Zelensky.
“We really now have a very narrow, but window of opportunity to end the war. Despite the very complex nature of the conversation, for the first time I saw a cardinal change, that we can get closer to a common vision of ending the war,” Poroshenko noted.
The Fifth President believes that one of the main reasons for such a scenario is the weakening of the positions of Russia and Vladimir Putin personally.
“Putin is weak now. His sphere of influence is shrinking. The world increasingly sees that he is unable to guarantee either security or support for his allies,” Poroshenko said.
He also drew attention to the situation on the front, where, according to him, the Russian offensive has slowed significantly, and the losses of the Russian army remain high.
Poroshenko separately mentioned the problems of the Russian economy. According to him, even despite high oil prices, it is becoming increasingly difficult for Russia to cover the costs of the war.
He cited Ukrainian long-range strikes on military and industrial facilities in the Russian rear as another factor.
At the same time, Poroshenko emphasized that Ukraine and partners must be prepared for another scenario.
“What will happen if there is no ceasefire? We will have a Plan B. Plan B means more weapons, including long-range ones, more air defense for Ukraine. More drones. More price. More sanctions,” he stressed.
According to Poroshenko, the key task remains coordination of actions between European and American partners.
“We have no right to lose these negotiations. We must use every opportunity to stop the fire,” the fifth President summed up.
As previously reported, Petro Poroshenko stated that Ukraine risks falling behind Moldova on its path to membership in the European Union if it does not accelerate reforms and the adoption of necessary laws.
As a reminder, Petro Poroshenko believes that Ukraine may receive the “green light” to join NATO by 2030. Despite the current discussions among the allies, the issue of Ukraine’s membership in the Alliance will not disappear from the agenda.
