Petro Poroshenko handed over five Ai-Petri anti-aircraft missile systems to the military, which are intended to strengthen the capital’s defenses against enemy air attacks.

“Today we are handing over five systems, manufactured with funds from a Kyiv city subsidy, to the Ground Forces leadership and other units. Thank you to the Kyiv community and the Kyiv City Council for this cooperation. All of them will cover the capital’s airspace,” Petro Poroshenko wrote on social media .

“Since late September and early October, the enemy has been employing new tactics for which Ukraine has proven unprepared. Our technological superiority over the Russian aggressor has always been ensured by our Armed Forces, our defense industry, and the assistance of our partners. Now, the enemy is massively deploying Shahed rockets and new Kometa multi-channel antennas. They significantly complicate the work of our electronic warfare systems and anti-tank missiles,” Poroshenko stated.

This requires concentrated efforts, constant modernization and improvement of technologies, forcing us to switch to three-shift operations and relocate production, particularly to underground workshops. We are modernizing not only our countermeasures against technical intelligence but also our electronic intelligence: direction finders, new high-frequency amplifiers, and emitters. When used correctly, they disrupt network communications and blind attackers,” Poroshenko explains.

“Defense must be modern, technologically advanced, and multilayered: radar, acoustic beacons, interceptor drones, missiles. We are doing everything we can to achieve this,” the fifth president writes.

The modernized Ai-Petri system was first shown to participants at MSPO 2026, the largest security and defense technology exhibition in Central and Eastern Europe, in Kielce, Poland, in early September. However, the system has been in service with the Ukrainian Defense Forces for several years. According to the Polish specialized publication Milmag , over three hundred systems are currently in service on the front lines.

As the Ai-Petri manufacturers explained at the MSPO 2026 exhibition , the Ukrainian system is not just an electronic warfare solution; it is a cyber defense and recognition system designed to identify and counter threats related to enemy reconnaissance. The system’s software incorporates elements that utilize machine learning algorithms, which are constantly updated as field conditions change and threats evolve.

Once a target is detected and identified, the system can automatically track it and, depending on the target type and situation, jam its control signal, video transmission, and GPS (GNSS) or GŁONASS satellite navigation signal. The system jams targets at a range of 20 to 30 km, depending on the terrain, in radio bands ranging from 300 to 6000 MHz.

The system is constantly being refined in real combat conditions. It’s not a static solution—it’s designed to evolve as the battlefield changes. There’s a stationary version and a mobile version—a pickup truck transportable by vehicle. The kit can be assembled by two soldiers and is ready for use in 10 minutes.

The system is also being implemented to protect critical infrastructure facilities in Ukraine. The manufacturer fulfills contracts for the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, and the program is partially supported by NATO partners. The Ai-Petri project began in the fall of 2023 thanks to private investment from Petro Poroshenko, who invested over 200 million hryvnias in development and production.
