Petro Poroshenko has handed over to the military five more Ai-Petri counterintelligence systems, which are to strengthen the defense of Kyiv’s airspace. The need for additional equipment is due to a change in the tactics of Russian attacks: the occupiers are increasingly using Shahed jets and Comet drones with multi-channel antennas, which complicate the work of Ukrainian electronic warfare equipment.

According to the fifth president of Ukraine, since the beginning of autumn, the Russian army has been more actively using new technologies during air attacks. In particular, we are talking about jet attack drones and 16- and even 24-channel Comet antennas, which increase the resistance of drones to electronic warfare (EW) means.

Poroshenko emphasized that countering such threats requires constant improvement of Ukrainian technologies and modernization of equipment.

“The enemy is using new tactics for which Ukraine was not quite ready. Today, the massive use of Shahed rocket launchers, their use of new sixteen- or even twenty four-channel Comets, which significantly complicate the work of our electronic warfare means, requires us to concentrate our efforts, constantly modernize and improve our technologies,” he explained.

How do the Ai-Petri complexes work?

The Ai-Petri counterintelligence systems are designed to detect and suppress signals from enemy drones. The equipment can block GPS, video signals, and drone control channels.

According to a representative of one of the PDTR centers, the complexes are used, in particular, to counter FPV drones, depriving them of video communication and navigation. She noted that individual crews can force up to 200 such drones to land per day.

Previously, the Ai-Petri was used against Russian reconnaissance UAVs, FPV drones, and guided bombs. Currently, the equipment continues to be modernized, in particular to counter the Shahed strike aircraft.

Poroshenko handed over another batch of five complexes to units of the Ground Forces and other military units. According to him, the equipment will be used to cover the airspace of Kyiv.

He also emphasized that effective defense of the capital must involve the simultaneous use of various means of detecting and destroying air targets.

“Defense must be modern, technological, multi-layered, using a radar field, acoustic beacons, interceptor drones, missiles. And we are doing everything we can for this,” Poroshenko said.

Production of complexes has been switched to three shifts

Poroshenko said that due to constant Russian attacks, the production of the complexes had to be moved, in particular to underground workshops. The enterprise currently operates in three shifts.

At the same time, specialists are improving the technical capabilities of the equipment. These include electronic reconnaissance systems, direction finders, high-frequency amplifiers and emitters. These technologies should ensure the interruption of network communications and deprive Russian weapons of the ability to receive the necessary signals.

At the same time, the Military article raised the issue of creating a single digital platform for managing air threat countermeasures. It should provide real-time target detection, prioritization, and distribution of weapons.

The authors of the material explain that during massive attacks, the military has to simultaneously track hundreds of targets and coordinate the work of different systems. Without proper interaction, several systems can direct their efforts at one drone, while another target will remain uncountered. In addition, the uncoordinated operation of electronic warfare equipment can create obstacles for their own systems.

The authors consider the software of the Ai-Petri complex as a possible basis for such a digital platform.

Recall, Petro Poroshenko recently handed over to the military five Ai-Petri PDTR complexes , which are intended to strengthen the defense of the capital from enemy air attacks.
