Petro Poroshenko honored the memory of Bishop Filaret on the ninth day after his death. He emphasized Filaret’s contribution to the formation of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and called for unity.
He announced this in a Facebook post.
Poroshenko noted that Filaret’s role in the process of creating the Ukrainian Orthodox Church is decisive and will remain in history.
“Today, our prayers are for the repose of the soul of Bishop Filaret. On the ninth day, we pray and remember the enormous contribution that Bishop made to the formation of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church,” said Petro Poroshenko.
He also emphasized the significance of Filaret’s actions during the Church Council and the process of receiving the Tomos.
“After our meeting with him, thanks to the Patriarch, within 24 hours, signatures of all hierarchs of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyiv Patriarchate were collected in an appeal to the Ecumenical Patriarch regarding the granting of the Tomos,” he said.
Poroshenko added that Filaret, in the last weeks of his life, contributed to the unification of the church.
“It is very important that in the last few weeks His Holiness has found the strength to meet, understand, and find harmony with his disciples in order to promote the unification of the church,” said Petro Poroshenko.
At the same time, he called for preserving unity in the state.
“Only through unity, through our strength, can we bring peace to Ukraine and preserve the state,” he emphasized.
It was previously reported that on Friday, March 20, the Patriarch Emeritus of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, Filaret, passed away . He was 97 years old.
Subsequently, the fifth President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, said that Patriarch Filaret was a great Ukrainian and forever entered the history of our state.
