Poroshenko honored the memory of the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred: we must preserve Ukraine so that their sacrifice is not in vain
Petro and Maryna Poroshenko, together with participants of the Revolution of Dignity, deputies of the “European Solidarity”, veterans, diplomats, and public activists, honored the memory of the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred.
This was reported by the press service of Eurosolidarity .
“Today is a great day in the history of Ukraine. The day when Ukraine laid on the altar of its future life the best of our Heroes. The first people came out in November 2013 in order to prevent Ukraine’s movement to Europe from being stopped. But on December 1, millions of Ukrainians came out on Independence Square because the dictatorial government made an attempt to suppress the protest,” Poroshenko recalled.
“And there was a second goal – to preserve democracy, to prevent freedom and the rule of law from being stifled, to prevent Ukraine from being stifled,” the fifth President noted.
“We must do everything possible to preserve the unity of the country, because thanks to unity we held Ukraine in 2014, protected Ukraine and Kyiv in 2022. Now the threats are no less. We need to preserve Ukraine. We need to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Our combat soldiers, soldiers, officers, generals,” says Petro Poroshenko.
“I thank everyone who is here today. I thank everyone who stood on the Maidans in 2013-2014, were here with shields when we carried out the wounded, when we, starting from the Officers’ House on February 18 and ending with the Maidan on the 20th, unfortunately said goodbye to our Heroes,” Poroshenko added.
“We must do everything possible to ensure that what such great sacrifices were made for is not in vain,” he stressed.
As you know, every year on February 20, Ukraine honors the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred – Maidan activists who died during the Revolution of Dignity of 2013–2014. On this day, thematic memorial and art events will be held in Kyiv.
