Poroshenko met with EU ambassadors: they talked about the ceasefire, Ukraine’s membership in the EU, and the effectiveness of the parliament

Petro Poroshenko held a meeting with ambassadors of European Union member states to Ukraine. During the conversation, the parties discussed the issue of ending the war, Ukraine’s progress towards EU membership, and the work of the Verkhovna Rada.

This is reported by “European Solidarity”.

“I was pleasantly impressed by the frank and meaningful meeting with the ambassadors of EU member states in Ukraine. Such a dialogue between European partners and representatives of the opposition is important for strengthening multi-party pluralism, democratic stability, and strong parliamentarism in Ukraine,” Poroshenko noted.

According to the opposition leader, special attention during the meeting was paid to the issue of ending the war and achieving a just peace.

“I emphasized the need for an unconditional, comprehensive and immediate ceasefire as the first necessary step on the path to peace. At the same time, it is fundamentally important that the European Union be fully represented at the negotiating table on peace and the future security architecture,” Poroshenko emphasized.

The parties also discussed Ukraine’s progress towards membership in the European Union and the legislative decisions necessary to fulfill European integration obligations.

“We welcomed the decision to open the “Fundamentals” cluster in June and expect the opening of all other negotiation clusters in the near future. This should be an important impetus for real reforms, the rule of law, the independence of anti-corruption institutions, and the strengthening of democratic standards,” the fifth President emphasized.

Poroshenko also reported that the participants in the meeting agreed to continue the dialogue and coordinate positions in view of the intensification of negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the European Union.

“Ukraine’s European integration is not only a foreign policy goal, but a path to a stronger state, stronger democracy, more effective institutions, protected citizens’ rights, and a just and lasting peace,” he summarized.
